The Ultimate Wedding Flower Checklist

Flowers play a crucial role in any wedding day and help create a romantic ambiance for the day. However, there are so many options and details to consider, it can be overwhelming to know exactly what you need. We’re breaking down the process into three simple steps so you can enjoy gorgeous floral arrangements without feeling stressed or overwhelmed.

Determine Your Wedding Flower Budget

Before you start selecting beautiful blooms, it’s important to determine your flower budget to avoid overspending or looking at items that might be outside of your budget. When setting a realistic budget for your wedding flowers, we find that the average couple spends $5,000-$6,5000. If you are wanting flowers to be abundant and to be the key design element of your day, you will be investing more than that.

When considering your budget, be sure to take into account additional fees for delivery and setup. You may also want to make sure to allocate some extra funds for unexpected expenses that may arise. There might be something that you see during the planning process that you want to add to your designs as it gets close to your wedding day.

As wedding florists, we are passionate about providing flowers to you no matter the budget, so we have worked meticulously to create options to get the most beautiful flowers to you for your special day.

What Flowers Do I Need for My Wedding

Creating a flower checklist can help make sure you have everything you need for your special day and that nothing gets overlooked. Start by listing out all the necessary items you can think of, such as a primary bouquet, attendant bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, altar decor, aisle arrangements, reception centerpieces, and any other floral decor you may want.

Make sure to include a rough estimate of the number you need for each item, but know that if you are early in the planning process, they can be adjusted along the way. Once you have a list of arrangements you would like, it’s time to submit an inquiry with your florist.

Here is a helpful checklist of items you should consider when planning your wedding flowers.

Personal Wedding Flowers

Obviously, these are at the top of the list because they are where the magic happens! They are the most photographed item from your wedding day and you want to invest your money into having something absolutely stunning. When we’re designing we always tuck the most special blooms into the primary bouquets and boutonnieres.

Wedding Ceremony Flowers

Flowers are a great way to create a stunning backdrop for your special day! Some of the most popular items for ceremony flowers include altar arrangements, floral archways, greenery hanging on the ends of chairs, and flower gardens lining the aisle.

An arch, altarpieces, and aisle flowers are sure to make a statement at your ceremony and often can be moved to repurpose at your reception. As florists, we can help guide you through the process and bring your vision to life.

Wedding Reception Flowers

We always remind clients that they spend most of their wedding day at their reception, so we like to repurpose as much from the ceremony as possible. However, it also means that you need to reserve a substantial portion of your floral budget for reception flowers.

We love creating beautiful centerpieces that are a focal point of the wedding reception and create a stunning display for the celebration. You can consider adding greenery or other natural elements to the tables to add texture and depth to the overall table design. Don't be afraid to mix and match different types of floral centerpieces through the reception for a unique look.

When planning your wedding reception, it’s easy to get caught up in decorating the main tables and forget about other important areas. Adding a few small floral arrangements or even bud vases to the bar, dessert table, guest book table, card table, etc. can make them stand out and tie them into the rest of your decor for the day.

Our favorite way to elevate a wedding cake is with what we call a cake garden that has stunning fresh flowers surrounding the base of the cake. Incorporating flowers into your cake elevates the design and creates a cohesive theme with your wedding decor.
